  1. A concept for the Nova class starship, from pg 178 of the Tech Manual:

  3.     Still another advanced starship concept would call for
  4. variable-geometry warp nacelle pylons, permitting optimization of
  5. field stress during extended Warp 8+ flight, resulting in
  6. significantly improved engine efficiencies. This design study
  7. features a saucer section composed of wedge-shaped modular
  8. segments that could easily be replaced as mission demands change
  9. and new technology becomes available. This concept calls for an
  10. internal volume approximately 40% less than the present Galaxy
  11. class starship, but is expected to perform similar mission
  12. profiles within normal cruise ranges because of the relative ease
  13. of spacecraft segment swapout.
